Last Thursday, the 19th of September, marked an exciting milestone for our team at VRSA as we partnered with Transnet to bring Virtual Reality (VR) technology to a local school in Cape Town. Our mission was to engage young learners and introduce them to the strategic importance of South Africa’s major ports. By merging education with cutting-edge VR technology, we aimed to create an informative and immersive learning experience that would capture the students’ imaginations by transporting them into different environments.

We arrived at the school fully equipped with 10 VR headsets, each preloaded with eight specially curated 360-degree videos. These videos were designed to take the students on a virtual tour of South Africa’s bustling maritime world, focusing on the country’s eight major ports. South Africa’s geographical location at the southern tip of the African continent makes it a pivotal maritime hub. Setting up the VR activation involved distributing the 10 Oculus Quest 1 and Quest 2 headsets among the students.
